François Dumont
My name is François Dumont and I am the proud father of the very first patient to use the end-of-life program at Roger's House. When it opened in May 2006, Luca Dumont was 21 months old, a patient at CHEO and was given just a few days to live. He had meduloblastoma, a brain cancer that had been diagnosed on the Easter weekend just a few weeks earlier. My wife Elizabeth Lorenzin, Luca, some family members and myself moved to Roger's House on May 16, 2006 and Luca died in peace and with dignity in my arms in the early morning hours of May 24, 2006. Roger's House was a blessing at the time where we received the best possible care from an amazing staff. It was like living in the comfort of your home but we were getting at the same time the on-going medical care needed for a dying child. We still visit Roger's House on a regular basis, as we always find comfort and caring people to talk to. We now have 2 other children; Emma is 2 years old and Sara was just born this past April.
