Sharon Liff-Neilson
My name is Sharon Liff and my son Adam Liff-Neilson attends Roger's House for Respite Care and Transition to Home when required. I volunteered for the FAC since I believe it is important to give back and help wherever we can.
It is important for us to have Adam attend Roger's House for respite in order for us to be able to relax, recharge, do some chores and sleep in. Adam is severely disabled with Pelizaeus-Merzbacher Disease (a leukodystrophy) and is unable to walk (some limited movement in walker), talk nor feed himself. He is supplementally fed through a gastrostomy and has remote seizures. These concerns weigh on our minds each day as we try to provide the best care possible for him. We do not have any family or friends that can help us and rely on respite workers for any relief we have.
The relief is good for Adam as well since he likes to play with others and enjoys new experiences. If he could talk, I am sure that he would say that he would want to go for a break from us too (:-)
Roger's House has provided the additional support that is much needed in our lives.
